We stage our rides from the lower parking lot of the Santiam Horse Camp in the Santiam State Forest, near Gates. It is about a 45 minute drive from Salem, Oregon.

From the North (Portland)

• Take I-5 South to Salem
• Take the Highway 22 Exit (#253) and turn LEFT at the top of the ramp toward Detroit Lake/Sisters/Bend
• Follow Hwy 22 for 30 miles to Mill City
• Go through Mill City and continue east for 3 miles to the intersection of Hwy 22 and Horeb Rd. (if you see the Oak Park Motel on your right, you’ve gone too far)
• Turn RIGHT onto Horeb Road.
• Follow Horeb Rd. approximately 0.5 mi past the fire station and across the bridge to the T-intersection with Gates Bridge/Gates School Road
• Turn RIGHT at the stop sign, follow Gates School Road for 1.3 miles. At approximately 0.7 mi, right next to the Mormon Church (which will be on your left) the road forks. FOLLOW THE FORK THAT GOES STRAIGHT AHEAD. Don’t make the turn to the right!
• At approximately 1.3 mi, you’ll come to a T-intersection of Gates School Rd., Henness Lane and Monument Peak Rd. Turn LEFT onto Monument Peak Road. You’ll see the gravel parking lot for the Horse Camp trail system immediately to your right. Park there and look for Jahn and the horses. The rig is a silver Dodge 2500 pickup and the trailer will either be dark blue (3 horse) or a tan gooseneck trailer with gold stripes (6 horse).
