Anna is a Bay mare with a white star and strip on her forehead. She is an Arabian, and likes to hang out with Luna and Dove. She has a sweet, gentle temperament, is very smart and loves to meet people. Anna was born in Washington State and made quite a lot of heads turn as she traveled on the freeways through Seattle rush-hour traffic on her way to her new home with us. Anna joined our herd in 2011 near the end of the riding season.
Bonnie is a registered Tobiano Pinto Saddlebred mare. Her markings are chestnut and white. She was born on our farm in Mill City, Oregon in 2007. Bonnie is inquisitive and has a very silly side to her personality—much like the coltish young girl she is. Bonnie loves to meet people and enjoys her annual opportunity to make new friends at the local Fourth of July parade. She and Maisie are close friends! Bonnie is due to have her first foal in April 2012. She will be joining the working horses for the 2012 riding season–those lucky customers will get to meet her baby too.
Bonnie Miss Pratt is a Bay Foundation Appaloosa mare who was born in 2000. She has a white star and small strip on her forehead. She is owned by DreamCatcher Appaloosas of West Salem, Oregon and will be with us for the 2012 and 2013 riding seasons. Like Lightning, her bloodlines can be traced back to the herds of the Nez Perce Indians led by Chief Joseph in the mid- to late-1800s. To minimize the confusion possible with two mares named “Bonnie” you will hear our staff call her “Bonnie P” or “Bonnie Miss P” and the pinto mare “Bonnie” or “BonBon.” We feel fortunate to have such gorgeous girls around–true examples of what the Scots meant by the term “bonnie!”
Wallowa Cayenne Toby, a Foundation Appaloosa mare who goes by “Cayenne,” was born in 2006. She joined our herd in December 2011. Her coloring is Red Roan Leopard. Like her friends Bonnie Miss Pratt and Jingles, Cayenne is owned byDreamCatcher Appaloosas of West Salem, Oregon and will be with us for the 2012 and 2013 riding seasons. She learns rapidly and really enjoys touching noses with Liam, one of our Livestock Guardian Dogs. Cayenne is a willing mare, interested in all that goes on around her. As with the other Foundation Appaloosas in the herd, her bloodlines can be traced back to the herds of the Nez Perce Indians led by Chief Joseph in the mid- to late-1800s.
Dove is a half-Arabian mare who was born in 2005; Venus and Luna are her half-sisters. She joined our herd in the Spring of 2011 and was a favorite of many customers during the 2011 season. Dove’s coloring is Chocolate Palomino–she has a flaxen mane and tail but dark golden body. Dove is patient and very even tempered. She spends much of her “off” time with Luna and Anna, and especially loves to roll in the pasture (which scratches her back in all the right places).
Gaia (pronounced “GUY-uh”) is a Kiger Mustang whose mother was wild-born and adopted through the U.S. Bureau of Land Management Mustang program. Gaia was born on a ranch just south of Corvallis, Oregon in 2006. Gaia is grulla in color with the dark ear tips and dorsal stripe found in horses of this rare color. Gaia is the “enforcer” of the herd, spending her days in the pasture making sure everyone is where they should be. She, Shelby and Venus are the leaders of the herd. On the trail, she is ready for anything and loves to go!
Twister’s Jingle Dancer, aka “Jingles” is a Foundation Appaloosa with black Leopard markings. Born in 2005, Jingles is owned by DreamCatcher Appaloosas of West Salem, Oregon. She will be with us for the 2012 and 2013 riding seasons. Jingles joined the herd in December 2011 and began training immediately. She, Bonnie Miss Pratt and Cayenne are close friends, having grown up together at DreamCatcher. Jingles is named for a type of Native American women’s dance called the Jingle Dance; when she was a baby, she was in constant motion and moved like the dancers she is named for. Her temperament now is a little more subdued, but she still has lots of “go” and is a powerful mare who is a great addition to the herd.
Lightning is a Foundation Appaloosa mare who was born in 2006. Her coloring is described as Bay “fewspot” and with Lightning, they really are few and far between! Lightning has a very laid back personality and takes things as they come. She joined our herd after the 2011 riding season ended and at that point had not had much handling or training. She learns very quickly and is inquisitive; within the first 2 weeks, she was already carrying a rider and going out on training rides with other members of the herd. Lightning’s pedigree can be traced back to the band of horses bred and used by Chief Joseph of the Nez Perce, who lived in the Wallowa Mountains of Northeastern Oregon until the United States government ordered the tribe to a reservation in 1877.

Luna is Arabian mare who is Cremello in coloring. Venus and Dove are her half-sisters and like those two, Luna has a beautiful, flowing mane and tail. Luna was born near Dallas, Oregon in 2004 and joined our herd in the middle of the 2011 riding season. Because she has blue eyes, she wears a fly mask to protect them from the sun in the summertime. Luna is expecting her first foal in August 2012 so will not be available for riders during the 2012 season. Idol FCA, the stallion she was bred to, is owned by Falcon Crest Arabians in Silverton, Oregon.
Maisie is a wild-born Kiger Mustang mare who frequently on rides with us but is not officially a member of our herd. She is on loan from Rocky Top Farm in Gates, Oregon and usually brings her favorite rider, Eli, with her. Her coloring is a dark Buckskin. Maisie and Bonnie are close friends and often have “sleepovers” at each other’s pasture during the year. Maisie has a Bureau of Land Management freeze brand on the left side of her neck, denoting her as a true wild-born horse.
Phoenix is a grey registered Arabian mare who was born in 1999. She began her career as a show horse. Phoenix did very well in halter classes as a young mare, then was injured. She made a full recovery, but has a scar on her left shoulder which makes her ineligible to show. Phoenix had a brief experience as an endurance racer before joining our herd in 2011. She has strong opinions about her herd-mates and shares Gaia’s habit of taking charge in the pasture to ensure everything is being done to her standards. With people, she is inquisitive, intelligent and happy to be on the trail. She also really enjoys being groomed and complimented on her beauty.
Shelby is a Tennessee Walker mare who joined our herd in 2009. She is black with a white snip on her nose and one white sock. She was born near Scio, Oregon in 2006. Shelby is named for the character in “Steel Magnolias” played by Julia Roberts. As any well-bred Southern Belle would choose, her colors are “Blush” and “Bashful”—otherwise known as “Pink.” She is very sweet and has quite a sense of humor. Shelby especially enjoys “unpacking” buckets and totes that have just been loaded with grooming tools, etc. Shelby is our first gaited horse and because of the smooth ride that brings, will be a great partner for anyone with back issues or other chronic pain.
Stihl is the only male horse in the herd. He is an Arabian/Paint cross with Buckskin coloring. He is very smart, very eyecatching and knows what a gorgeous boy he is. Not only does he have the looks, he has the desire to be out on the trail too. He has not only been a trail horse while he’s lived with us, but has also done a TV commercial for Atlas Motors in Portland, OR and won a second-place ribbon for his participation in the Mill City Fourth of July parade. Born in 2001 in the Redland area of Clackamas County, Oregon (near Oregon City), he joined our herd in 2004 as a 3 year old.
Venus is a registered Arabian mare who was born in 1998. She is our “glamour girl” and is very proud of her long, flowing mane and tail. Venus is chestnut in color, with a white star, strip and snip on her head and a white sock on her right hind foot. Venus was born in Dallas, Oregon; she has been a member of our herd since 2006. She has spent most of her working life as a trail horse but also has experience in parades; she especially likes the Mill City, Oregon Fourth of July Celebration, her “hometown” parade.
