Meet the Horses

  Dolly

Dolly is black with a white star on her forehead.  She is the herd’s lead mare and is also the largest horse in the herd.  Dolly is a registered Percheron, which is one of the Draft breeds (as are the Budweiser Clydesdales).   Like her other Draft cousins, she has a sweet, gentle temperament, is very smart and loves to work.  Dolly is trained under saddle and also has worked as a carriage horse (single and in a team) for previous owners.   She joined our herd in 2008.

Spell

Spell is a registered Arabian mare and is the shortest horse in the herd.  Spell is bay in color.  She has a white patch on her back and a small white star on her forehead.  Arabians are known for their intelligence and independence, as well as for having great endurance.  Spell is a sure-footed girl who especially enjoys working with her half-sister, Venus.  Spell was born in Independence, Oregon in April 1997.  She joined our herd in 2005.

   Venus

Venus is a registered Arabian mare and is Spell’s half-sister.  They grew up across the fence from one another on neighboring farms and continue to enjoy one another’s company now that they live together.  Venus is our “glamour girl” and is very proud of her long, flowing mane and tail.  She is chestnut in color, with a white star, strip and snip on her head and a white sock on her right hind foot.  Venus was born in Dallas, Oregon in April 1998 and has been a member of our herd since 2006

Gaia (pronounced “GUY-ya”)

Gaia is a Kiger Mustang whose mother was wild-born and adopted through the U.S. Bureau of Land Management Mustang program.  Gaia was born on a ranch just south of Corvallis, Oregon in 2006.  Gaia is grulla in color with the dark ear tips and dorsal stripe found in horses of this rare color.  We call her our chocolate horse because she’s similar in color to a dark chocolate bar.  Gaia is the “enforcer” of the herd, spending her days in the pasture making sure everyone is where they should be.  On the trail, she is ready for anything and loves to go!

 Bonnie

Bonnie is a registered Tobiano Pinto Saddlebred mare.  Her markings are chestnut and white.  She is currently the youngest horse in the herd and was born on our farm in Mill City, Oregon in 2007.    Bonnie is inquisitive and has a very silly side to her personality—much like the coltish young girl she is.  She is an absolute Princess and has been “adopted” by Dolly, so is second in command even though she’s young.  Bonnie is in training this year and learning to carry riders.  She may be a “tag-along” on your adventure to give her some experience on the trail, but until she is proven and ready, she will not be carrying our customers.
Shelby

Shelby is an unregistered Tennessee Walker mare who joined our herd in 2009.  She is black with a white snip on her nose and one white sock.  She was born near Scio, Oregon in 2006.  Shelby is named for the character in “Steel Magnolias” played by Julia Roberts.  As any well-bred Southern Belle would choose, her colors are “Blush” and “Bashful”—otherwise known as “Pink.”  She is very sweet and at times a bit timid as the newest addition to the herd (and the lowest in the pecking order).  Shelby is our first gaited horse and because of the smooth ride that brings, will be a great partner for anyone with back issues or other chronic pain.

 Stihl (pronounced “Steel”)

Stihl is the only male horse in the herd.  He is an Arabian/Paint cross with Buckskin coloring.  He is very smart, very eyecatching and knows what a gorgeous boy he is.  Not only does he have the looks, he has the desire to be out on the trail too.  He has not only been a trail horse while he’s lived with us, but has also done a TV commercial for Atlas Motors in Portland, OR and won a second-place ribbon for his participation in the Mill City Fourth of July parade.  Born in 2001 in the Redland area of Clackamas County, Oregon (near Oregon City), he joined our herd in 2004 as a 3 year old.
