Winter horseback riding can be really fun, as long as you dress for the weather. In our area of Oregon, we could have rain, snow or cold temperatures with wind. Sometimes we get all three. Good clothing choices include rain ponchos, long Goretex or oilskin coats, gaiters, boots, hats, gloves and lots of LAYERS! Breathable fabrics like wool, alpaca fiber and many of the synthetic “performance” fabrics that are available are recommended.
Of course, you could hit one of our many sunny days, when the temperatures can soar into the 50′s. We stage our rides from approximately 850 feet above sea level and generally climb to elevations just under 2000 feet. Our weather is often better than in the Willamette Valley, as we generally are above their cloud-line. It’s often warmer and drier up here in the winter than it is in Portland and Salem!
Because we ride in a canyon, we can start on bare pavement and be in 18″ of snow within 30 minutes of riding. Please plan to bring trail snacks, water and or warm drinks (no alcohol permitted!) to keep your body’s ability to warm itself at its best. Every rider will have saddle bags large enough to stash a small thermos or a standard sized water bottle (rule of thumb: if it fits in your car’s cup holder, it will probably fit in your saddle bag).
Winter riding outings are limited to experienced riders only and group size is limited to two riders. If you have questions about this policy, please call us!

Bring your camera for some truly beautiful winter photos!

All rides require reservations. We do offer rides several days a week so call and check if we have openings on the day you’re interested in riding. If weather conditions or other extenuating circumstances do not permit us to keep your scheduled appointment, we will reschedule your ride at no additional cost but will not be able to provide you a refund. Should you need to reschedule your reservation for a different day or time, please call us–there is no cost or penalty for reschedule requests. If you need to cancel your reservation, you must do so within 48 hours of your reserved ride; this will result in a refund of 90% of the reservation price to cover our handling costs. Cancellations received with less than 48 hours’ notice are subject to a 50% cancellation fee.
